Week One: Casein, soy and nut free.

Parenthood: Where the color, smell and consistency of your babies poop can rule your world.

You know you are obsessed when you find yourself taking pictures of your child's diapers and posting them on message boards asking for advice.

For the last few weeks I have been dairy free. It was hard to break up with my love of dairy but I am bound and determined to get to the bottom of R's issues. Fast forward to this week, I realized I am not seeing any results other then his gas has resolved. So, I have come to the conclusion, he obviously has issues with dairy. When I eat it, he will grunt and kick his legs all night and sometimes get fussy because of the gas but there is still a underlying problem.

I am sure he has reflux but I think it's because of a food intolerance. He is still phlegmy in his throat all the time (waiting still for the bar.um swallow test) and he is still having very runny, mucousy poops that don't have any seeds! His poops were pretty much always like this, but I never realized it was abnormal.

Casein free, soy and nut free means I am starving. I love peanut butter, baked goods, and snack bars. I have hit up the health food store, but let's be honest, the stuff doesn't taste the same at all! It can take a few weeks to get all the proteins out of your system, so in the mean time, I wilt away being forced to eat more fresh (it's really not that bad, but it's a total diet change for me, and I am pretty sure I am having withdrawals from my carbs and junk food!!)

 Dinner anyone?

I have seen one result: SLEEP. R has slept over 4 hours in a row every night this week. Last night, was 5 hours!! This is from a little boy who up until this point woke up every 1.5-2 (maybe if I was lucky 3) hours to nurse. He has done one solid long stretch and then will do 2-3 hours after that, and every 2 during the day. His diapers haven't improved though and neither has his throat... I am giving it a another week or so before I add the soy back in to see if that was the issue. And then nuts. Hopefully in the mean time, he gets into the G.I doctor and I can discuss it more with him.  I am not even considering formula at this point at all because he is not colic or bothered by anything and gaining weight very well. At his 2 month appointment he was in the 94% for weight and 75th for height so aside from the weird poops, and throat issues, he seems to be doing ok on the boob juice. I might gain 10 pounds next time I can eat normally.

It's so hard to give up so much but you are such a good mom to be doing this for your baby! Good luck, I hope he keeps getting better!

Wow! Kudos to you for finding alternatives to your diet and for working so hard! It seems like your little one is doing really well if he's gaining weight and not uncomfortable!
